This past weekend, Horisumi completed the traditional Japanese short bodysuit for long-term client Chas. Beginning all the way back in 2017, this large-scale project has taken 8 years to complete. Chas is a superstar client, having travelled all the way from the USA to Sydney 8 times to smash out week-long (yes, week long!) back to back sessions, not to mention a 3-day stint at the tattoo convention in London some years ago.
Machine line work and tebori shading come together to make up the incredible tiger splashed across Chas’ chest and ribs, the entangled dragon back piece, and the colourful peonies encasing his shoulders and arms. Given the time it’s taken to complete, some ink is fresh, some is healed, and the rest is in various states in-between. This, along with Chas’ perseverance through the pain, has resulted in quite the eye-catching work of art.
Chas is sure to be back soon to extend his short suit all the way down to the ankle, a project Horisumi is keen to take on. For now, though, Chas has headed home to rest and heal up.
